Summary: They are the words that solve everything. But only when Val can make himself say them.

It was Valentino’s place to be upset with Vox. To reject his advances when he was in a mood. When Vox did it, it was something for Val to power through. Not that Vox didn’t power through Val’s rejections until Val had no desire than to let Vox make it up to him.

But it was because Vox was the one who made more mistakes. Val didn’t truly blame him for it. Vox was just that sort of man. The man who would make these mistakes over and over and genuinely want to make it up to Val each time. Val would punish him for the appropriate amount of time and then accept all apologies. They were hardly ever in words, but in presents and actions which Vox did even when he hadn’t done anything wrong. Which was how Val knew they were sincere—Vox wasn’t just doing those things to earn forgiveness. He did them because he wanted to.

But now, there was nothing. Because apparently Val had done something to upset Vox to the point where he wasn’t only angry. Where some rough sex would easily work it out. Where he would grouse under Val’s hands and complain about him, work, the world, because it was never just Val when Vox felt offended. It was the last straw.

This wasn’t like that. Vox zapped out of the room when Val entered it. Even Velvette looked bewildered. It took Val crawling into Vox’s bed while Vox was asleep and putting on rubber caps so when he woke up he couldn’t teleport away.

Vox woke with a very annoyed expression. He reached up to his antennae, but Val held his arms tightly to his sides. A hot blast of air came from his vents.

“Val, let go.”

“No.” Val nuzzled Vox’s neck, but didn’t do anything more. “I miss you.”

These times didn’t happen often, but those words always solved it. Val didn’t know why he never remembered them the moment he realized this was happening. He could always cut this short immediately if he did.

Vox slumped in his arms. Sighed. Wriggled an arm to wrap around Valentino’s waist and dug his claws into Val’s hip where his electrical burns had healed far too much without Vox pressing his advantage to keep them there.

“Take them off. I can’t sleep with them on.”

Val removed the rubber caps and replaced one of them with his mouth. Vox truly melted in his embrace then, cock even stirring, but all he did was tighten his grip.

I miss you. Those words were always their salvation. Other words didn’t do the trick, and far more of them Val couldn’t bring himself to say, because they couldn’t be true, because he didn’t understand them.

But I miss you was the truest baring of his soul. Because even while next to Vox, with him in his arms, Val could still miss him.

At least he could wait until morning. Then Val would have him.
