Title: Interview

Prompt: Loss of Faith
Word Count: 187
Summary: Katherine interviews Toby prior to his parole hearing
“Tell me a time you suffered a loss of faith,” Katherine asked.
“Is this going to help me with my parole?”
“That'll depend on your answer.”
“It's funny,” Tobias answered. “But even with all that I've been through, if you mean losing faith in God, I'm not sure I have. Maybe it was due to all the time I spent in Sister Pete's office, staring at that crucifix over her desk. Maybe it was the lessons that I had with Kareem Said. Losing faith in others? Well, Oz lets you know very quickly who you can trust. It can come with some measure of disappointment.”
“What about with yourself?” Katherine asked.
“I didn't allow it. I had to trust that I could pull through. I wasn't about to leave my kids without a father, so even at my worst points, I had faith in myself.”
“I don't think a lot of people could have gone through what you went through. You're a remarkable man, Tobias. I think that you're the type of man who deserves a second chance.”
“Let's hope that the parole board agrees with you.”
