I pulled my armchair closer to the fireplace and placed my dried feet as close to the fire as I dared, willing the warmth to restore circulation to my frozen extremities.
“Here, my good man.”
No manna from heaven ever looked as divine as the thick slab of gingerbread which Holmes brought forth on a tray accompanied by the hottest of coffee.
We chatted about the case, then wished each other the compliments of the season, and I drifted off to sleep with sweet spice on my tongue and a seasonal melody by way of Holmes’ violin in my ears.
