If someone had asked him, “What makes Andrew so special that you're able to tell him the truth?” Neil wouldn't answer.
He knew the answer, of course. Andrew was as broken as he was. Andrew was fascinating in his own way, and in order to get Andrew to tell his secrets, Neil had to part with a few of his. There were some things he didn't tell, items that would compromise this tentative thing between them, truths that would make being with Neil less safe for Andrew. He had to keep Andrew safe- that was a priority.
Why? Because Andrew was special.
But there was no way he'd ever say that to Andrew.
