Coming back to Columbia after Reno felt like a new beginning for Vivian. She was on her own, without her husband for the first time in her school career. She wondered if it would be awkward seeing him in the halls, or if they would still nod at each other cordially as if they were still together. Would she be the subject of gossip? If only they knew that the divorce was the least scandalous thing she'd done while in Reno.
A young women with dark hair in a style similar to Cay's stood talking with some of her classmates in the hall. Vivian caught her eye for a brief moment and then looked away. She couldn't allow herself to stray, not here. This might have been a new beginning in some areas of her life, but she was not ready to have a fresh start in terms of career.
Some things were best left in Reno.
