Summary: Barry keeps a tight lid on his feelings
Barry feels a bit confused by Gene's reaction to Janice Moss's disappearance. It might be because he's never felt a loss as deeply as that. His mother died when he was too young to be anything but confused by it, his father passed while he was stationed overseas, too busy to let anything settle in, and by that point, Fuches was more of a father to him. He loves Sally but there's a part of him that knows that she'll probably break up with him and that he'll probably give her a good reason for doing that. Or she'll be a casualty, taking a bullet that's meant for him. He can't see life stopping on account of it. If he would stop long enough to feel, maybe he'd be as broken as Gene is now.
He never wants to feel that way. He will never allow himself to feel that way.
