“You look like you're about to give me an assignment,” Cay said, laughing, as Vivian set the book she was reading on the nightstand. “Like you want me to explain the metaphors in some obscure novel. I have to tell you I didn't do that well in school. Art class, sure, but everything else I kind of blew off.”

“And I was just about to ask your opinion on 'Remembrance of Things Past',” Vivian said, taking off her reading glasses and placing them on top of the book.

“I knew it!” said Cay, who let out a relieved breath when Vivian laughed.

“I wasn't thinking of an assignment. More of a task.”

“I did the dishes.”

“Something of a more immediate need.”

“Ah,” said Cay. “Something like...”

“Yes,” replied Vivian drawing out the word.

“A very personal task.”

“Indeed. And if this was an assignment, you'd earn very high marks.”
