Title: The Apple of Eden
Fandom: Indiana Jones Saga
Characters: René Belloq and Henry "Indiana" Jones
Rating: Teen
Prompt: Apple
Word Count: 183
Summary: René thinks about Henry during a shared university class. Set well before "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
“The Apple of Eden,” intoned the professor, before going into a long description of the artifact's origins. “It got its name from its ability to tempt men into sin.”
What didn't? thought René, cautioning a glance at the sandy-haired man to his left. Henry Jones could tempt a saint and René wasn't close to being one of those. He doubted that Jones knew the power he had.
René watched the other student diligently taking notes. Henry wrapped himself in the history of each artifact, in the stories that were as part of the objects as the gold and jewels that decorated them. René was much more pragmatic, more interested in what he would gain from an acquisition, either monetarily or in terms of prestige.
The Apple of Eden wasn't exactly the Holy Grail, but it still would fetch a nice price in some marketplace were he to discover it. Not everything needed to be in a museum.
Some things were better enjoyed in private. That was a lesson that Henry Jones needed to learn. Perhaps René would be the one to teach him.
