There was the telltale crinkle of cellophane wrap from the lower bunk.
“I don't know how you can eat those,” said Beecher.
“They're delicious,” mumbled Keller.
“You're going to break a tooth.”
“Not the way I eat them. I'm going to suck it for a long time,” Keller grinned as he heard the mattress shift above him.
The cell got quiet. He could hear Beecher turning the pages of whatever book he'd picked up from the library earlier today.
“Toby?” Keller said after a few minutes of silence.
“I thought you and your Atomic Fireball might enjoy the peace and quiet,” Beecher said.
“Ha!” said Keller. He moved off the bunk and got to his feet, moving into Toby's line of sight. He stuck his tongue out at Toby.
“Your tongue's red.”
“That's biology.”
“From the candy.”
“Yeah.” He leaned closer to Beecher. “Wanna taste? All the flavor and none of the tooth decay.”
“Why not,” said Beecher, drawing him in for a long kiss.
