Summary: Vivian feels conflicted about Cay
I open my eyes slowly as her steps retreat from the room. How long has she watched me sleeping? I wonder. It is strange behavior, but I'm not afraid. I know that she would never hurt me.
She doesn't know me well enough to hurt me, the realist inside of me says.
Following on the heels of that thought, the romantic that I never knew existed chimes in, But I wouldn't mind getting to know her better.
There's an internal back-and-forth, a war that rages between the realist and the romantic, a weighing of pros and cons.
The realist wins. She wins... for now. I can feel the romantic readying for another round and I shut it down as well as I am able.
Cay... Cay... Cay... echoes in my mind.
A return to sleep is a long time coming.
