Summary: Sheldon comforts Amy during a thunderstorm
Pasadena, like the rest of Los Angeles, didn't get a lot of rain. Every once in a while, a big storm would roll through, complete with rain, thunder, and lightning. Amy didn't handle them well. She would curl up in a ball with her hands over her ears until the storm passed. Sheldon, who grew up in Texas was rather used to the havoc that a storm could bring.
“Is it the lightning that bothers you or the thunder? Or is it the anticipation of the thunder that the lightning causes?” he asked.
“Yes,” said Amy, clutching a pillow to her head.
“I'm going to turn a light on, okay.”
“You won't be able to sleep.”
“I'm not sleeping now. If you don't face the window, you won't notice the lightning as much when the light is on.”
“Oh, okay.”
“My mother used to say that thunder happened when the angels were bowling. Even at six, I knew that was malarkey. But she didn't want to hear about high pressure and low pressure systems, so I let her have her little fantasy. She wouldn't let me tell her about Thor, the god of thunder either, which didn't seem fair. Would you want to watch a Thor movie?”
A clap of thunder resounded through the apartment. Amy jumped a bit. “Not right now,” she ground out through clenched teeth.
“There, there.”
“Sing 'Soft Kitty.'”
“But you're not sick.”
“Sheldon.”
Sheldon patted her on the shoulder and then began to sing. He didn't stop until the storm had mostly dissipated and Amy had fallen asleep. He turned out the bedside lamp, curled up next to her, and slept.
