She knows she should be going out. She knows she cannot stay in here forever. it isn't right, proper, or even sensical, for a young woman to be hiding from the world within a teapot.

This world is even madder from the world from whence she hails. The beings here would never believe the tales she could tell them of her world, of ships so grand that they can take her father away and keep him gone forever or of women who are forced to never speak a single ugly word and in some places never a word at all, to always dress prim and proper, and to forever remember to stick out their pinky when sipping tea. There are so many rules to being a woman in her world, to being a grown up at all, and she decided, quite some time ago, that she wants none of it.

Still, it lingers, always on the horizon, surer by far than any hope she may ever have of her father returning. Not that she can blame him. She can blame him for forgetting her, for not loving her enough to stay with her, but that is all. Perhaps he is waiting for her to find him, Alice thinks, for her to somehow procure her own ship and go sailing after him, to make it clear that she loves him enough to follow her.

But did he not tell her to be good? To mind her mother and care for her and her sister? She can hardly do that from here! But even this world casts its demands upon her. Here, there are far more beings needing protection, and no one cares that she is only a girl. No one cares that she has her own hopes, dreams, and most of all, fears. No one cares that she hurts, or that all this is so strange to her. No one, that is, but one.

She turns around her as she hears voices outside. She cannot hear quite what they are saying, but he sends them on their way, always protecting her, just as her father would have done, Alice cannot help but thinking wistfully, if he were here in this strange land. She wonders if perhaps he has come here before, having found it on one of his multiple journeys. She knows very well they are not all about business; after all, he has dined with Pirates and even Kings!

Currently, she is being protected by one who is far more like a Pirate, although, she supposes, he does have some similarities with Kings as well. After all, he does rule the tea parties. She turns round, feeling the pot touched, and looks up as he glances inside. "Are you ready to come out now?" he asks, peering down at her.

Alice hesitates, her hands placed on either side of the pot. She knows she should. There are people looking for her; this whole world seems to need her help. But still, she is only a little girl. Why can she not be a little girl for a bit longer? Why can she not be who she wants to be, even here with all these strange beings? She should exit from her hiding place. She should help where she can.

And she will, in time. But right now, she is still scared and frustrated, flustered that she is now in a land where she cannot even be her natural size. "Just a little while longer?" she pleads.

The Hatter nods, winks, and closes the lid, just as another group comes by.
