Spike woke up with a yawn and absently patted the empty space beside him.
Groaning, he rose on his elbows to check the alarm on Buffy’s nightstand, which read quarter to noon. Technically, it was his sleeping time, but he hated to sleep the day away while his wife was up and about. At that thought, he lifted his left hand to look at the wedding band on his finger. It had been a while, but he hadn’t quite gotten used to the idea yet.
He stretched out and sat up, catching his reflection in the mirror above the dresser.
He didn’t enjoy seeing his own face staring back at him from a mirror, after spending decades doing perfectly fine without that.
Apparently, Willow had thought that an enchanted mirror would make a one-of-a-kind wedding gift for a friend who had just married a vampire. Frankly, he’d been ready to return it, but Buffy had found it amazing, so he’d reluctantly accepted the gift; he’d vowed to make her happy, and he intended to do so.
Besides, he could hardly recognize William’s features anymore in that face that now belonged to Spike. Unless he squinted hard enough… but he wouldn’t.
