Title: Means to an End
Fandom: All for the Game
Character: Neil Josten
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 179
Prompt: Practice
Summary: The Ravens practices were different

The Ravens didn't practice, they drilled. Over and over and over again. Repeated failures were punished. Doing something perfectly after it was taught was the only way to survive.

Things were never done perfectly. There was always some tweak that needed to be made, some approach that needed to be refined. Defenders were punished when the strikers broke through. Strikers were punished when they couldn't. The sheer violence of the drills was off the charts. Neil had been elbowed so hard that he thought he may have broken a rib. He spent half of each session picking himself off the ground and god forbid if he didn't do that fast enough to join the line for the next run-through.

The drills were hard and violent, but Neil felt safe on the court. It was when the whistles blew and the team filed into the locker room that his heart filled with dread. He had to keep telling himself that this was for Andrew. If he could get through this, they would both be able to return safely back home.
