Her head throbbed as she pulled her aching body up onto the shore. She didn't know where she was, but she knew who had tossed her into the ocean. It was amazing she'd survived the fall, but then she was a Slayer, a warrior, a fighter. Even if she'd not been called, she had always been a fighter, and she'd always, ultimately, been alone -- until recently.
They were going to go after B next, Faith knew, spitting up a mixture of blood and saltwater. She couldn't see. Her vision was too filled with her own blood, but a bright beam of light still managed to break through. There was a lighthouse here, she thought, knowing how the current had swept her body away from the ship and in which direction she'd been taken. They'd think she'd drowned as they had intended, but they'd be in for a surprise. She had failed to beat them, but B would get him, and then she'd come looking for her.
Just like the lighthouse had once pointed sailors to safe land on stormy nights, B would be her light. She just had to wait and keep herself alive in this place until she reached her. She would come. For once, Faith was certain, in her heart and very soul, that she would not be left alone, a shipwreck of a deserted person, just waiting for that final call. B would come. She'd find her. She'd always find her. She just had to wait.
Faith let herself drop onto the shore. She'd made it to land. Now she could rest. She'd find a way to survive until B came when she woke. Her busted lips twisted into a wry grin. She'd hated the girl once, but like everyone else, B had become her heroine too.
