10 out of 20 - OZ (HBO) - Tobias Beecher
Title: Different Ways of Arriving at the Same Destination
Fandom: OZ (HBO)
Character: Tobias Beecher
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 178
Prompt: Arrested
Summary: The first time was easier
When Toby hit Kathy Rockwell with his car, he sobered up quickly. He called his father soon after the moment of impact asking what he should do. Harrison was on the scene almost immediately and by his side as he went through the process. It was awful, getting fingerprinted, getting his mug shot taken, but he never spent a moment behind bars until after the trial.
He hadn't realized that it could have been so much worse. He could have been arrested at the scene, handcuffs slapped on his wrists, shoved into the back seat of a police car where he would sit by himself as they transported him to the county jail. He called his mother with his one phone call, told her that he wouldn't be coming home, that he'd made a mistake, and was paying the price for it. He told her to tell Holly and Harry that he loved them.
When the bars on the jail cell slammed closed, it was something of a comfort. Maybe he hadn't been ready for freedom just yet.
