Thank you! Yes, that was the part which really stuck with me. Schalken just let it all happen without any protest. He didn't fight for Rose in any way, not with the uncle or with the vampire. And he was upset for 2 or 3 days?! And then he went back to painting. What?! That's not even the typical hero of any era of story. And I really find that part of his art (candlelight vs shadow) amazing. So I linked the two! Thank you again.
